A few days ago, the European Union and China signed the first significant bilateral trade agreement, setting high-level protection rules for geographical indication products, ensuring that 100 geographical indication products from the EU and China are protected in each other’s markets. “Anqiu Ginger” and “Anqiu Green Onion” were successfully selected, becoming the only two geographical indication products selected by Weifang City.
Anqiu City has an area of about 180,000 mu of large ginger planted all year round, with a total output of about 1 million tons. It is the county with the largest ginger planting area, the highest yield, and the largest total output in the country, and is the first pillar industry of local agriculture. The annual sown area of green onions is about 300,000 mu with a total output of 1.2 million tons. It is one of the largest green onion bases in the country. It can be supplied to the international market every year. The annual export of green onions is about 36,000 tons, accounting for about 75% of the total export of green onions in Weifang. At present, it has developed 2 professional wholesale markets of onion and ginger at or above the provincial level, and more than 60 leading enterprises above Weifang city level mainly focusing on onion and ginger products. The products are exported to more than 40 countries and regions including Japan, South Korea, North America, and the European Union.
